Together with a research-informed curriculum, we embed employability skills throughout a student's journey with us.The University houses Europe's largest Marine Institute, with a dedicated world-class marine building being erected this year which will include state-of-the-art research facilities and new wave tank testing equipment that will be unique to the UK. We are also one of the founding partners in the Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry and are the largest provider of health education in the South West.

The RAE 2008  saw Plymouth named as a top 50 research University and the 'most improved' with 80% of its research judged as being of international repute, meaning both our undergraduate and postgraduate students can be proud to be taught by, and work alongside world-class experts.

The Peninsula Allied Heath Collaboration is purpose build centre opened in September 2006 and is the home of the School of Health Professions, which includes dietetics, occupational therapy, operating department practice, optometry, paramedicine, physiotherapy, and podiatry.

As well as having two fully equipped lecture theatres, seminar rooms and computing facilities it has modern purpose built specialist skills laboratories as well as excellent research facilities. More information is available through the interactive guide.

It is based in close proximity to Derriford Hospital, the main hospital in Plymouth, and the Plymouth University Peninsula Schools of Medicine and Dentistry.

The Faculty of Health, Education and society has sites in Plymouth, Exeter and Truro with exceptional environments for teaching and research throughout the beautiful south west peninsula.

Our courses are consistently recognised as among the best in the country and we are particularly proud of our reputation for innovation. This innovation is reflected in the award of National Centre of Excellence Status for our Professional Placement Learning in Health and Social Care. The practical elements of our courses - including the use of state of the art clinical skills facilities - are extremely popular with our students.
In addition to undergraduate provision the faculty offers an ever evolving range of educational opportunities for existing health and social care professionals. By working closely with service providers and delivering courses across the south west we aim to make our CPD and postgraduate provision as accessible and valuable as possible.

Our research profile is particularly dynamic with the faculty actively contributing to a wide variety of multidisciplinary research groups and projects; including those within the Peninsula Postgraduate Health Collaboration (and our partners the Peninsula Medical School); to benefit health and social care services.
Research in the Faculty nested under the Institute for Health and Community (IHC).  The Institute forms a strategic framework within which research is focused and specifically relates and reflects the University’s research aims. The Institute aims to build and strengthen research areas already identified as world-class in the 2008 RAE and through synergy of ideas, research themes and innovative methodologies, focuses resources and activity into strategically-defined Research Centres and clusters.  As such, it facilitates the development of creative partnerships and coherence in the research activities of all academic disciplines in the Faculty.
