Digital inclusion 

  • NHS Digital – This guide to digital inclusion is aimed at local health and care organisations to help them to take practical steps to increase access to digital services for all in their communities.
  • AgeUK, Loneliness and Digital Inclusion – The Age UK network runs a variety of digital inclusion projects including one-to-one support; classroom-based services; one-off drop-in or larger community awareness sessions.

Guidance for patients and practitioners

  • Nuffield Department of Primary Care and Oxford University – Easy-to-follow illustrated guides and other resources for NHS patients and clinicians to support online consultations
  • Plymouth Telerehab Toolkit – Resources and advice to support patients and professionals using remote consultations.
  • NHSX – Dr Minal Bakhai, director and clinical lead for Digital First Primary Care at NHS England, offers her tips for virtual consultations for professionals.
  • NHS Wales, video consultation service – Document giving support and advice on successfully using the web-based communication platform, Attend Anywhere, which allows video appointments between patients, families and clinicians.
  • NHS Scotland online platform guidance – Advice for professionals on using the online platform, Near Me, providing remote healthcare to large parts of the Scottish population. 

Training and competence

  • Health Education England (HEE) – Development of a digital competency framework for UK Allied Health Professionals. Document produced in 2019-20 from work by a panel of 40 allied health professions.
  • Personalised Care Institute – Free online courses, suitable for all health and care professionals, regardless of profession or seniority to develop skills in personalised care.
  • The University of Plymouth – Have created a telerehab training checklist to help students and practitioners reflect on and assess their knowledge of telerehabilitation to identify areas where they would like more training, resource or support. 

Organisational

  • NHSx What Good Looks Like (WGLL) – This programme draws on local learning and established good practice to provide clear guidance for health and care leaders to digitise, connect and transform services safely and securely.
  • Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) – High-level principles for good practice in remote consultations and prescribing.
  • Telehealth patient consultation guidelines and training Framework to guide Allied Health Professional telehealth- Staffordshire University- This policy brief aims to provide guidance and facilitate further discussion on the essential components of telehealth guidelines- including implementation, technical, financial and staff training considerations.
  • Guide to adopting remote consultations in adult musculoskeletal physiotherapy services- developed by the Outpatient Recovery and Transformation and Best MSK Health Collaborative programmes- This guide supports adult MSK physiotherapy services – delivered by providers across primary community and/or secondary care – to implement evidence informed remote consultations.

  • Innovations database – Share your innovative practice and be inspired by others. Use the resource to inform, inspire and influence your thinking and to demonstrate the value of physiotherapy.
