Associate members and the support workforce steal the show at ARC

Eight members of the Associate member support worker reference group and a number of other Associate members recently attended the CSP’s Annual Representative Conference (ARC) in Manchester.

This was the first time an in-person ARC has been held since 2019 and it was the first time that the Associate reference group had an opportunity to meet each other in-person since beginning their work as volunteers with the CSP in March 2020.

It was a wonderful opportunity for group members to connect (see above) as well as to work hard on your behalf at conference. The group and other Associate members listened to the debates, voted on motions and contributed on behalf of Associate members.

There were some notable successes for Associate members at ARC this year thanks to the courage, hard work and determination of the reference group in speaking on your behalf and in serving all members in their voluntary roles.

Chris Richards was involved in a panel debate on climate change.

Reference group members presented a motion which asked conference to support a request to Council to open up the CSP’s leadership development programme to Associate members. This motion was supported by conference with a huge majority. The articulate, compelling and passionate nature of this motion stole the show at ARC!

Day one was rounded off with a presentation by the Health Education England team sharing the developments and progress being made for the AHP support workforce in England as a result of the AHP support worker optimisation programme.

And finally at the awards dinner reference group member Paula Wheeler – who is also a CSP health and safety rep at the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital picked up the safety rep of the year award. Congratulations Paula!
