Taking your health and wellbeing seriously

It doesn’t matter who I speak to at the moment everyone seems to be struggling with their mental health in one way or another.

With the dark nights, third lockdown, not being able to see family and friends etc, people are finding it more and more difficult to cope with day to day living.

So with this in mind I wanted to tell you how I have been coping and what our trust has put in place to help us.

For me personally I have been using an app called ‘insight timer.’ I have found this a great resource for helping me get off to sleep. I choose a meditation based on how I’m feeling that day, then I just put my earpods in and soon drift off to sleep.

I also am lucky because I live fairly close to my work place so I have been getting up a little earlier and taking a brisk walk in to work. I have made a play list of songs that remind me of fun, happy times and play this loudly as I march along – probably not doing my eardrums much good but it puts a smile on my face!

Our trust has also put ‘wobble’ rooms in place, somewhere you can go that is quiet, there is someone there to talk to if needed but you can sit and contemplate and cry if you need to.

We also have the use of trained counsellors that can signpost us to other services if needed.

So what I am trying to get across is that at the moment there is no right or wrong way to deal with things, you just have to cope the best you can. Be kind to yourself and take some time out for you, it’s so important.
