Nominated by the local member of parliament Darren Jones the programme is funded by Southmead Hospital charity and is estimated to have saved £300,000 in lost work days last year.

Alice Clevely and Peter King lead the rapid access physiotherapy part of the team, which includes occupational health and the physiotherapy department.

‘What makes us stand out is that we are rapid and quick,’ said Ms Clevely.

There are over 8,500 staff at North Bristol NHS Trust.

The physios speak to staff members within 48 hours via telephone triage and where necessary aim to see them within 10 working days.

‘We’ve been involved from the beginning with the project which also includes psychological support, and have been referred to as the ‘pillars’ of the project,' said Ms Clevely.

Meanwhile, the care and compassion category of the NHS parliamentary awards was won by the critical care rehabilitation team at NHS University Hospitals Plymouth.
