Our steward of the year is Claire Ellis.  Claire received an impressive 18 separate nominations from her peers for her dedication, knowledge, and unwavering support to others.

The commitment to her role is evident in her meticulous and passionate approach to trade union representation.

For decades she has been a consistent and invaluable source of knowledge on the Isle of Man, benefiting not only the physiotherapy staff but also the broader Manx Care community. Recently, she has excelled as the interim staff side lead, demonstrating her leadership capabilities and broadening her impact.

Claire demonstrates the power of partnership working. She led a therapy review within Manx Care, which was instrumental in reinstating previously lost AHP and physiotherapy leadership roles.

Members describe her as honest, fair, knowledgeable and trustworthy, with excellent communication skills.

Claire’s patience and willingness to listen, paired with her ability to provide honest feedback, have led to praise from those who work with her. Every member who has been involved with Claire has echoed the same feedback: ‘You want Claire in your corner and she always is’.

Claire’s influence extends to negotiating and securing fair pay deals for CSP members – a crucial achievement amid the high cost of living. Her efforts have been pivotal in addressing the challenges of recruitment and retention of staff.

The Steward of the Year 2024 award celebrates Claire’s remarkable dedication and the profound impact she has made on her colleagues and the wider community.

Being more involved with the CSP can help you to develop professionally and personally, and we would encourage all members to consider becoming a CSP Safety Rep we invite you to join the team.
